A local organization dedicated to serving elderly, disabled and low-income people is near at least 20 percent of its goal to help 8,000 families this year. The Mother’s Day project – held May 7 through the We Care Committee – helped 1,464 families. “It was a blessing to a lot of people,” We Care Committee president LueZarah Robinson said. The 2009 goal was 4,000 families and the committee exceeded that goal by 216 people. Those affiliated with the organization plan a project in the coming weeks, likely before the start of school, she said. While they are still working out details on the project, Robinson says it will focus on helping elderly, disabled and low-income families “by giving out information and supplies.” Another of the group’s goals is to continue to locate and give information to those who attend the We Care Committee projects on services offered in the community to help them, Robinson said. The group also has a goal to establish a physical location.
