I wish the SDN would find someone on the progressive side to provide some balance to Danny. Basically, he could save a lot of ink if he would just say, every Sunday, 'yeah, what FOX said'. I know Danny personally and he is a nice enough guy, but his columns are basically just right wing talking points, interspersed with rambling tangents and folksy colloquialisms.

The biggest question to arise from Mr. Gardner's columns here: why is anyone still publishing his diatribes? We canceled our subscription to the SDN in part because of his regular columns (along with many other reasons).

Mr. Gardner's columns display the very worst of intellectual dishonesty. For example, he loves to bash Democrats and liberals for running up the national debt, but conveniently forgets to address the issue that the Republican presidents of the past 30 years have done much more to add to the national debt than the democrats. Only one president in the past 30 years has had a balanced budget, and that was Bill Clinton. And I'm not speaking as a Democrat party loyalist; in about 25 votes I have made for national-level offices (presidents, senators, representatives), I've probably voted for a democrat 4 or 5 times; the rest of the votes have been for republicans or independents.

Mr. Gardner's articles represent the essence of what is wrong with American politics today. Too much demonizing, deception, and partisan loyalty, and too little intellectual discourse.

By the time I got to the end of this diatribe, I was too bored to go back to the beginning to see how the point truly related to the story.

In these ramblings, we were taken on a journey, if you will-- we left Point A, went down the hill, across the creek, around the corner and back up the hill to get to Point B, when there were only of 5 steps between point A and point B had we stayed "on the hill".
