CD: Souper Bowl this Saturday at State Theatre

STARKVILLE — Some of the most popular restaurants in the Golden Triangle will compete this weekend at the Starkville Young Professionals’ third annual Souper Bowl charity event, set for 12-4 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre on Main Street.
Chefs from 11 restaurants and catering companies — The Veranda, Restaurant Tyler, Harvey’s, Central Station Grill, Anthony’s, Old Venice, The Ritz, Little Building Cafe, Grumpy’s, Aramark and Ptolemy’s Taproom — will make different soups for the event. The public will be asked to walk around and taste each of the soups, then vote for the best.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place, and for the “Best in Show,” which will go to the restaurant with the best decorations and atmosphere at their booth, said Starkville Young Professionals member Jennifer Prather. Additionally, the restaurants are being asked to prepare soups not on their regular menu, she said.

Prather and the rest of the Starkville Young Professionals, a branch of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, are excited about the event.

“It will just be a casual, family-friendly event where people can walk around, taste all the soups, and they’ll be full when they leave because it’s 11 soups and that will basically fill you up like a meal,” Prather said. “It’s a very fun event; very exciting.”
