The Starkville School Board tabled school uniforms in a 3-2 vote last night. The board instructed district administration to hold a public hearing before going any further. Board member Walter Taylor was the wing vote, reversing his vote from the last meeting in favor of an uniform policy.

Every other school in the GTR area has switched to a school uniform policy. Some have gone even further and required clear plastic bookbags in addition to a standard uniform. Whatever happens, the safety of our children should be the #1 priority, and if uniforms will help differentiate students from non-students, then I’m all for that and can’t understand why some parents would be against it.
