CD: City schools accept bid on junior high kitchen

BONNIE COBLENTZ

School officials accepted a bid Monday for almost $1 million in kitchen and cafeteria renovations and site improvement at Armstrong Middle School, nearly bringing to a close the projects funded districtwide by a $26.5 million bond issue, approved by voters in 2007.

At the meeting, the board also voted 3-2 to direct the school administration to draft a school uniform policy. The entire board was present for the meeting which was postponed from last week due to bad weather.

The board voted unanimously to award the project to F.P. Contracting of Brandon based on their low bid of $969,500. The project will renovate and enlarge the kitchen and cafeteria at Armstrong, and will make site improvements to the school campus, including paving at the adjoining Greensboro Center.

Pickett Wilson made the motion to accept the bid and was seconded by Keith Coble.

The board also unanimously approved a $61,451 change order for Armstrong Middle School addition on Eddie Myles motion and Coble’s second. The change primarily involves the installation of Smartboards in classrooms.
