So where does Bama plan on hosting the BCS Waterford this weekend?
The place where stuff is so cheap, you think you made it yourself.
Wal-Mart.
The BCS trophy will be on display at a Wal-Mart Supercenter this weekend in Tuscaloosa. The “Staying Classy” tour continues at a Wal-Mart in Gardendale.
Seriously. Here’s the AP story.
You can’t make this stuff up.

I can see the Bama fans now… taking their picture with the trophy after picking up a case of natty light and a pack of clean drawers.
Some of the Texas fans were making fun of Bama (and unfortunately, the South in general) on their scout site prior to the game– one poster said the Alabama band would march in the “double-wide” formation. Alabama’s decision to display the National Championship trophy at “Wally World” will only add fuel to the fire to posts and stereotypes such as this.
Way to represent the SEC, Bama, waaaaayy to go!
So “classy” people don’t shop at Walmart?
I did read several news stories and blog posts about the Trophy on display at Walmart. Most blogs were saying negative things about Alabama, the SEC and the South – just because a trophy is on display at Walmart?
Why should we pretend to be something we are not in the South? I shop at Walmart and if the trophy were there, I’d love to see it. And my parents had tickets to the title game (their Alabama tail gating friends went with their tickets).
The University of Alabama is number 1 in the nation. I imagine that Texas would display the trophy anywhere – if they just had won.

I personally spend more money than I would care to at Wal Mart. There is nothing wrong with Wal Mart, but there is some irony in Bama displaying the trophy there. I just feel hosting a $30,000 Waterford Crystal trophy that represents all of college football in a Wal Mart cheapens what the trophy stands for. It is simply not the proper venue to display the national championship trophy. Bama is getting paid by WalMart to display the trophy there, though, which also shows to what lengths Bama will go to in order to make a buck.
A trophy representing all of college football is not “bigger” than the people the trophy represents. The trophy stands for athletes, students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, etc.
What could be more proper than to allow everyone to see the trophy? People shouldn’t have to go to a formal venue to view a trophy – regardless of its cost.
I like to look at this as an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy the success of….the community.
Everyone could see the trophy if it was displayed at the Bryant Museum, basketball arena, city hall, etc.
Why not just take it to McDonalds and let everyone go through the drive through, buy a Big Mac and see it? That’s essentially what they are doing by displaying it at WalMart.
