CD: Carville, Matalin light up MSU

090930_matalin1James Carville and Mary Matalin come from vastly different backgrounds.

He’s a Democratic political strategist who grew up in Louisiana. She’s a Republican from Illinois.

Yet, despite their vastly different political views, the couple has been happily married since 1993. At a talk Tuesday night in Mississippi State University’s Bettersworth Auditorium, as part of the College of Business’s third annual Leadership Summit, both touched on the difficulties facing the U.S., but also on the strategies they’ve used to manage their home life despite opposing political views and campaigns.

Matalin was an assistant to former President George W. Bush and served as a counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, while Carville was former President Bill Clinton’s campaign manager.

On the couple’s ability to discuss politics at home, Matalin said she and Carville decided against it “a long time ago.”
