STARKVILLE — After more than two months with an interim city attorney, the Starkville Board of Aldermen Tuesday finally agreed on an official replacement.
During an executive session, aldermen voted 5-0 in favor of hiring Chris Latimer to serve as city attorney. He will be paid $95 per hour, or no more than $95,000 per year, Mayor Parker Wiseman said. If Latimer spends time working on bond issues, he will be paid $190 per hour, though the increase in pay will not be counted toward his $95,000 per year limit, Wiseman said. Latimer works at Mitchell McNutt & Sams in Columbus.
Ward 3 Alderman Eric Parker and Ward 4 Alderman Richard Corey did not attend the meeting and did not vote.

Rodney Faver was paid a good bit lower than this- in the $75 range? Maybe less? A Max of $95,000 NOT counting Bond Issue work sounds sort of high, does it not??
And only 5 of the 7 Boardmembers attended the meeting and were present to vote?
I was happy to see in this mornings SDN that the 5 boardmembers present did not allow an exemption for a developer to circumvent the city’s sidewalk ordinance.
That does seem high. And where does he really work? The SDN says, “Latimer works with the Perry Winfield and Wolfe firm in Starkville.”
Aren’t we in a budget crisis? Once again the kids are off base, at our expense.

Isn’t the city attorney a part time position?
