Sunday Sales; Daniels weighs in

Kelly Daniels from the SDN weighs in with a column on Sunday sales.

Kudos to Kelly for using the phrase “theocratic republic” when talking about the issue. Very nice.

  1. Alan Couey says:

“The Sunday sales prohibition does not consider the individual who is not Christian, though he or she could be an American citizen paying taxes. And reading biblical quotes as a justification for law is a theocratic practice, and means nothing to the non-Christian American paying taxes.”

(Excuse the pun, but PREACH, LADY!)

    Well done, Miss Daniels.

I thought this article on FoxNews.com was interesting in light of the discussions we are having in Starkville. And it further shows that Starkville isn’t as backwards as another post stated.

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/07/18/france.sunday.shopping/index.html

France set to relax Sunday Shopping Ban
“What seems routine in much of the Western world has been fiercely resisted in France, where Sundays have officially been set aside as a day of rest for more than a century and where a 35-hour workweek remains the norm.

The new legislation, if approved by the Senate, would overturn a 1906 law that forbids Sunday trading in all but the largest cities. It is part of a raft of reforms Sarkozy has pushed for since becoming president.”

Regarding the Kelly Daniel’s article in the Starkville Daily News, “The Sunday sales prohibition does not consider the individual who is not Christian…” What about other religions? From what I have read, Islam does not allow the consumption of alcohol. Further, you assume that all Americans pay taxes – and not all Americans pay federal and/or state taxes.
