The SDN wrapped up the “did he stay or did he go” issue. They also reported on his veto of the weakened Lynn Lane project.
Mayor Dan Camp was completely right.
The severely redesigned scope of the project turns it into a supra-sidewalk around the parks.
Camp was on the money (no pun intended) when he vetoed it due to the high cost and low benefit to the city.

What’s wrong with a glorified ring around the parks? The Audubon Park in New Orleans has a walking and biking trail circling it and it’s one of the most beautiful city paths I’ve ever used. In fact a lot of city parks I’ve visited have trails around them. A trail around McKee Park and the Sportsplex would be an asset to this city that could be enjoyed year round since McKey offers a lot of tree shade and the Sportsplex is sunny.
The argument that the money could be better spent is true but that case could be made about most issues. Will the money be better spent? It won’t buy a lot of road repair so where will it go if we don’t take this opportunity? I would have rather seen the original plan for the path be constructed but if this is all we can get for now I’ll take it. If people use the new trail it will strengthen the argument for building more paths in the future.
