This email just came in from the new owners of the State Theater:
State Theatre Fans,
We are now under new ownership and management at the historic State Theatre in Starkville!
Over the next few weeks we will be getting ready to unveil our new restaurant and menu, which will be replacing Doe’s Eat Place. We also have some new summer drink specials and some great live music coming up!
Go Dogs!

What does this mean exactly??? Are you Doe’s or not. Personally, I felt the food, service and atmostphere lacked. Sometimes you just can’t copy the original. . .
I can’t wait to see the new menu. I never ate their because I don’t eat steaks and can purchase shrimp at the grocery store that are bigger and tastier than at Doe’s. I look forward to see what will happen.
I ate at Doe’s once and quite honestly you can get a better steak for less at Cappe’s so I just never went back. State Theatre is the best thing going in Starkville…glad it’s staying the same.
My one and only steak from Does in Starkville had a hair on in. It took half an hour to get a replacement. The replacement was VERY good, but very poor service. The tamales were VERY BAD. Not up to par to Doe’s in Greeenville.
I’ve never been impressed with Cappe’s food.
The Best Steak in the area is a steak off my home grill
The 2nd Best Steak in the area is the Stuffed Filet from Anthony’s.
The 3rd Best Steak in the area is the heart of ribeye entree at Restaurant Tyler.
I believe it’s because the tamales were served in wax paper (instead of corn husks) and no mustard + saltines were available as the condiments to the aforementioned tamales. This flat-footed Greenville girl was ticked OFF! You can’t replicate a Doe Signa steak, either. Oh well.
Yay, State Theater, and good luck on the new restaurant!
