I am sorry but Cox’s plan for the new City Hall and renovation of current City Hall for the Police Department and Courts will just not work. You will end up incurring more expenses than necessary. Have you ever heard of economies of scale? If you put them all together you can share resources easier.

The Courts need to be the same place as the Police Dept and then they all need to be with the City Hall. The PD will need holding cell areas while people are waiting during the court sessions to go before the judge. This will just act as a holding facility for a couple of hours when court is in session. You will create more expenses by having police officers go back and forth between the court room at current city hall- under Cox’s plan.

More reasons it will not work:
1.There is not adequate parking at current City Hall already for PD and there is for sure not enough parking when court is in session. If The PD goes with the new City Hall then the parking lot behind Starkville Café can be utilized more.
2.How are you going to configure a sally port into the current City Hall structure for the Police Department?

City Hall, Police Department, and Courts all need to be constructed across from the new Electric Dept building. The current City Hall needs to be demolished and made into a parking facility/green space for downtown.

  2. GoState04 says:

I don’t feel City Hall and the Police Department have to be in the same facility.

I do see the argument for the PD & Courts to be in the same or adjoining facilities.
