What has been rumored for weeks (here and other places) seems to be official. Parker Wiseman is throwing his hat in the race for Mayor. The Democratic primary got a little more crowded.
The thinking was that Parker wouldn’t run against Camp. The next question is “Will Frank Davis run again?”
He has started a Facebook group and is constructing a website at to be launched at http://www.wisemanformayor.com.
This is the info from his Facebook page:
Parker Wiseman was born on August 5, 1980. The son of a college professor and a school teacher, he was raised in Starkville, Mississippi attending public schools and graduating from Starkville High School in 1999.
Parker earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Mississippi State University. Wiseman attended MSU on the John C. Stennis Scholarship. In 2002 he was elected president of the Student Association and his classmates later named him Mr. MSU. After graduation from MSU, Parker attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, he earned a Masters in Public Administration from the prestigious UNC School of Government, which currently boasts a top five national ranking in the field of city management graduate education.
Beginning in 2005, he spent three years earning a juris doctorate at the University of Mississippi. During his tenure there, he was president of the Law School Student Body, a member of the moot court board, and served as a staff member and the office manager of the Mississippi Law Journal. He graduated from law school magna cum laude in May of 2008.
Most importantly, law school gave Parker the opportunity to meet the love of his life, formerly Lindsey Smith. Lindsey and Parker were married on August 16, 2008. They both feel very blessed to make their home in Starkville where Parker practices law with Knight and Mozingo, PLLC.
Parker’s vision for moving Starkville forward is defined by the following objectives:
1. Ensure that the Starkville Police Department has Resources it Needs to Continue to Keep Our City Safe
2. Develop a Local Economy that Taps Our Resources and Allows Ideas to Profit
3. Use Tax Dollars in a Proactive, Forward Thinking Manner
4. Adopt a Land-use and Transportation Strategy that is Appealing and Economically FriendlyPlease join the Parker Wiseman for Mayor Campaign by making a small donation today of $25, $50, or $100. Donations can be made at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=2475462.

I think Parker will do very well in the younger demographic (read, MSU students) and it should help that he grew up in Starkville and has always been very involved so he knows plenty of the 45+, resident crowd through their children.
As Steve Rogers said in his podcast, the more people in the primary the more likely it is that 20-30 votes will decide this thing.
This should be interesting and I think Wiseman has a fighting chance.
