The fun begins

Jon Maynard hits the problem of the GSDP Executive Committee structure head on with his new panel on restructuring.

The Executive Committee, or whatever the governing board of the GSDP will become, must have a measure of accountability to it’s membership. There must be some type of recall process in place so that a small group of people can’t sit passively by as we spin our wheels in economic development (see “GSDP: The Thornell Years” for further explanation).

Is that a larger board with more members, some from MSU and the public sector? Is that elections by the general membership? Royal appointment from his highness Dan Camp?

On a different note, Maynard made a good hire in Allison Matthews as VP/Membership. Allison is a native who will do a good job.

Maynard has his work cut out for him. But the bar has been set pretty low at the GSDP, so maybe he’ll be able to do some good.

But until changes are made in the executive committee, expect to see Columbus continue to run the Economic Development show in the Golden Triangle. Anyone out there have $5,000? That’s all it takes to buy a seat on the Executive Committee. Of course, you could do what some of the other members of the EC have done and just have your boss at the bank pay for it and play the role of his puppet. ah, those Good Ole Boys. Anybody else think there should be term limits for GSDP EC members?

CVB paying the GSPD 4500 a month is reeeediculous. Then they charge them for other line item cost’s. I like Maynard, but the old gaurd needs to go.
