A public hearing will be held this Thursday, 11:15 AM, at the Oktibbeha county courthouse to discuss the rates being set on a new sewer line east of the city along Highway 182. The Public Service Commission will conduct the hearing.
From the PSC:
NOTICE OF VIKING DEVELOPMENTS, L.L.C. OF INTENT TO ESTABLISH INITIAL RATES FOR SEWAGE DISPOSAL SERVICE IN ITS RATE JURISDICTIONAL CERTIFICATED AREA IN OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI.
You can track the info that lead up to this hearing from the PSC here.
The College Board has called an emergency meeting via teleconference for noon today about a “personnel matter at Mississippi State University.”
The New York Times chimes in with a review of this weekend’s Flower Pickin’ Festival. Congrats to Robbie Ward for another success. This is an event that really does put Starkville on the map.
Dr. Vance Watson was thrown under the bus by IHL honcho Meredith last night.
“I am pleased this incident has concluded and that I have been exonerated by the state Auditor’s Office,” Meredith said in a release.
BS
Meredith should resign immediately for unethical conduct. If he doesn’t resign, IHL should fire him. IF IHL doesn’t fire him, the Legislature needs to begin proceedings to dissolve our current system of higher education governance yesterday.
Meredith should have never asked for (if he did) or accepted the benefits. Why is an university landscaping his house in the first place, regardless if he planned to pay for it? Did he initiate the exchange? Is this the first time he has accepted improper gifts? Are there other bodies buried that we don’t know about?
The last time I looked, those receiving improper benefits due to their position get in just as much trouble as those handing out the benefits in other sections of state and federal government. Just ask Bobby DeLaughter.
Dr. Watson was in the wrong. He’s paid his penance both in dollars and probably in losing the job he has wanted for years.
Meredith shouldn’t walk away scott free. He should be packing his bags. Today.
Nice article today on PRWeb.com about Lucas Davenport, a 21 year MSU student who has started a new site at www.MyCoffeeMakerStore.com.
The resignation is reported to be prior to State auditor Pickering’s report. This doesn’t bode well for Vance Watson.
This is probably the best explanation to date.
If P&Z wasn’t already fun enough, City Planner Ben Griffith wants to add a couple more zoning designations to the mix. According to Griffith adding R-3A (single family, medium density) and R-4A (single family, high-density) classifications to the existing zoning map will offer flexibility to developers.
I think it will at least add an hour to P&Z meetings as the commission now has has two more options to chase down rabbit trails. Ouch.
The much needed new office space for the Thad Cochran Research Park gets its start this week as MSU and OCEDA join together for the ground breaking. It will be 42,000 square feet on 9.25 acres with a design by Starkville based Shafer and Associates. This is a much needed addition for the park.
According to the same article in the SDN, it looks like the existing Multi-tenant building in the park is not faring so well. Welcome to Starkville Jon Maynard.
