It was all about ME

Four years ago, the buzz was around MSU basketball signee (and Mississippi product) Monta Ellis. This was the guy to propel MSU basketball along post-Lawrence Roberts. ME (as he was referred to) opted out of his scholarship offer and went straight to the NBA from high school. There were a few “I told you so’s” and “he should have come to State” in the Bulldog crowd when he was picked mid-second round in the NBA draft.

ME just signed a $67 million 10 year deal with the Golden State Warriors in what would have been his senior year of college. Along the way he was paid close to $800,000 a year to play basketball in the NBA.

The question- did he do the right thing by skipping college on his way to such a paycheck? Would you have skipped college if you could earn that type of money without a degree?

Of course he did the right thing. For those of you who havenºt had to get a job immediately out of unviversity in the past five years, in many cases it has gotten quite depressing and having a degree doesnºt guarantee 1) a good job or 2) good pay or 3) job security.

If going to a private school, taking out loans and getting a job after a bachelorºs degree it almost doesnºt add up to be worth it until 10 plus down the line.
