I cannot believe this dialogue is even taking place. How can anyone argue that the Cotton Mills project will not benefit everyone within a 30 mile radius of Starkville. It creates jobs, gives a long term tax base, increases the quality of living which brings more people, jobs tax base ect, even higher quality...it is a chain reaction. I cannot believe Mr. Perkins was actually quoted as saying, "Who is this project really going to primarily benefit"? If all the roads were paved in Ward 6 who would benefit? Everyone in Ward 6. So...apparently according to Mr. Perkins everyone in Ward 6 deserves to benefit rather than the entire city and county having benefiting now and far into the future.

He also asked, "Have the names of said investors been made known and revealed to the public? If not, why not?" Does Mr. Perkins really not understand how business works? Investors can and normally do have a multitude of reasons to not publicly release. (Ex. other projects they are working on, any other businesses they may be involved in, a confidentiality agreement, a non-disclosure agreement, marketing purposes <you coordinate publicity, especially the free king, not randomly releasing information to the public that has no real benefit.

Perhaps Mr. Perkins does not eat out, does not shop or have a wife that shops, enjoys looking at forcing all visitors to look at the dilapidated blight upon first entrance to Starkville, doesn't like bringing jobs to the area, doesn't like an increased tax base, doesn't like encouraging visitors and local residents to shop here as opposed to mall trips to Tupelo, Jackson, Bham, Tuscaloosa and beyond and basically has showed us his vision for Starkville. We do need alderman that have some sort of business sense and vision. Truly if Mr. Perkins does not see that investing in Cotton Mills is investing in everyone in the Starkville community, then the only two possible conclusions to come to are: 1) he badly misunderstands business
2) He doesn't consider himself a member of the entire Starkville community.

I disagree. We are entrusting the BOA with more projects when they can't agree on a project started in 2001? Asking questions is a good thing. I agree the Cotton Mills project is a good one and I'm supportive of the TIF bonds. Yet, we still have existing needs that must be met too.

What's with the "city owned" convention center? Who would run it? I don't get that part of the Cotton Mills project. What will it cost to run the convention center? How long before we see a profit? Robbie - enlighten us on this, please!
