Maybe the SDN needs to read StarkvilleNow more often

The questions posed by the SDN in this morning’s editorial are baffling. They pop off half a dozen question about the Cotton Mills project that “need to be answered.”

I sat down with a MSU official a few weeks back and got most of the answers, which are located in various posts here. I also found the plans and power point presentation and posted a link. I have yet to see a plan appear in any media source other than StarkvilleNow.

And all this from a part time blog with 250+ readers a day (more when stuff is going down at the GSDP).

I would think a $130 million plus project would spur a little more elbow grease. If I can find the info and answer the questions, then surely they can.

BTW here is a link to the plans. Been up for a while (since May 9).

“Who is this project really going to primarily benefit?”

The short answer, Alderman Perkins, is everyone. Construction jobs, retail jobs, tax revenues. Cotton Mills Marketplace appears to be a win-win with no money outlay upfront for the City of Starkville.

This is the type of attitude that needs to be removed from the BOA during the next municipal elections.

Unbelievable.

BOA striking like a hammer?

Looks like the 2% money is in the sights of the BOA again. They should have the budgets of every organization for their review who get 2% money.

What we really need

A special session deciding who replaces Ron Polk.

And OCH needs more money

The Supes passed a motion that allows the requested payday- I mean bond issue- of $27.5 million to get on the ballot Nov. 4.

That is almost $80 million since 2005. Are we getting $80 million worth of improvements in health care services from OCH? (Not saying we aren’t, but that is a lot of money for a county hospital).

And what the heck is Sonny Kelly doing not bringing supporting materials to his bosses to back up his request for almost $30 million?

Is the quality of health services at OCH worth it?

Joey Beechum, MSU college student

Joey won the Jeopardy College Challenge, the final of which aired today. Nice interview with him at the Jeopardy sit. Best quote “We’re not Ole Miss and we’re in the best state.”

MSU release about Joey.

Great editorial about Ron Polk in the Journal

Pretty much sums it all up.

Johnny Cash and Robbie Ward

Robbie Ward, Executive Director, of the “Johnny Cash Flower Pickin’ Festival” held annually in Starkville, was quoted in an article from the Marked Tree, AR “Tri-City Tribune” about the “Cash Welcome Home Concert.”
