Disappointing

My overall frustration in Starkville/Oktibbeha economic development boils to down to one thing: the perception that we running to stand still. The SDN article from the economic development summit yesterday furthers the frustration.

Why do we have to have a neighboring ED official come in and tell us what we are doing wrong and how to correct it? Isn’t that David Thornell’s job?

Why are we following the Link again? Lowndes County is building speculative buildings so now that makes it OK for Starkville to form an action team and look at the ides. It took two mega-site certifications next door for us to even think about starting to look for one within the confines of our county.

Why can’t we lead? Why do we seem to talk everything to death? Is our leadership truly that ineffective?

I would hope that someone get the Link’s schedule of bathroom breaks and lunchtimes so we could get those right. But it might take forming an action team to even do that….

No April Fool’s Joke

Dr. Vance Watson takes the helm April 1.

Vance Watson Interim Pres.

Named by the IHL today.

Travis Outlaw is still a Dawg

Nice article from the Pacific Northwest about Travis Outlaw and his loyalty to MSU. Seems the two football loses to the Ducks isn’t quote forgotten by his friends.

“Y’all ready for the Ducks’ funeral?” he said, laughing. “It’s gonna get ugly. It’s time for revenge.”

Don’t be messin’ with those ‘Tecture folks

Apparently the College of Architecture got a little rough with almost-former MSU president Doc Foglesong before Spring Break.

“I told him that memo was the most demeaning, degrading, dismissive and mean-spirited thing that a president could do to a nationally recognized school and its faculty,” said Berk.

Don’t think Christmas Cards will be exchanged this winter.

New Starkville Electric Department building plans

Thanks to architect and visionary Chris Cosper for the new SED rendering. The building looks great, especially the roof line.

All that is needed now is our own Easy Reader.

Governmental hearings on the next MSU presidential search

The Ledger is reporting that State Reps want to know about the process for the next presidential search.

MSU’s Alumni Association and others are holding a hearing Wednesday to discuss the upcoming MSU presidential selection process. The hearing is set for 8:30 a.m in Room 113 of the Capitol.

This one should be fun.

More development for Columbus

SN reader Robbie Black poses this question:

“Why is there a difference in developing Columbus and Starkville?
What makes it hard for developers? I noticed that the developers,
Castleberry and Freidman, were putting hotels and restaurants in
Columbus. What happened to their plans for Starkville??”

Great question. Why are there two new hotels coming to Columbus when we can’t even get one announced 2 years ago built?

It’s also interesting that the article in the Dispatch stresses the level of professionalism and cooperation among the Lowndes Board of Supes in getting the TIF proposal passed.

Georgia is playing it close

The Dawgs have nothing to lose. UK has a tourney bid on the line. Is Coach Gillespie playing to win this one and writing off tonight’s game, figuring one win is enough to secure their bid? How do you conserve your player’s strength in case you play tonight? That’s why these guys get paid the big bucks.
